Placement guide

Shoulder

The shoulder is a graceful, strong placement: the rounded cap gives a coiled snake a natural resting place, and the head can crest over the top toward the collarbone for a dramatic reveal.

The shoulder cap is a curved dome — a snake naturally coils around it, or a head can rise over the crest toward the collarbone.
Size range
Medium — a single coil or a head-and-neck piece.
Detail
Room for solid detail, but the curve of the joint means the design will read differently with your arm up versus down. Plan the head position with your arm in a neutral pose.
Comfort
Moderate. The bone at the very top is the tender part.
Visibility
Medium — shown in tanks and sleeveless tops, hidden under sleeves.
Aging & wear
Shoulders see a lot of sun in summer and stretch with shoulder movement. A stable, classic placement overall.
